2002年9月的Unforgiven上，Triple H在与Rob VanDam的腰带战中成功卫冕了WHC。在比赛的最后关头Ric Flair 从场外冲进擂台并帮助HHH使用铁锤击中Van Dam并最终赢得比赛。从那开始，Flair便以Triple H经纪人的角色伴随其左右。不久Batista从SmackDown!调来RAW并唆使Flair成为其经纪人。
2003年年初Triple H 开始了与 Scott Steiner 的剧情对立，此时Batista 与 Randy Orton也双双臣服与Flair左右
这个强大的组合最终成型于2003年2月，并公开打出其名号 Evolution[进化军团]意味"the Evolution of this business"。四位成员并列而居，由代表着过去'the past' (Ric Flair)，代表着现在 'the present' (Triple H)，及未来'the future' （Randy Orton及 Batista）。组合的开局似乎不太顺利，期间03年2月由于意外受伤Randy Orton 和 Batista有过短暂的退出，几个月后又重新回归进化军团并协助Triple H与Bill Goldberg展开对抗
